Season’s Greetings!

It’s hard to believe that 2021 is almost upon us, as we start to come together with family and friends whether face-to-face or online, I wish you a safe and enjoyable festive time.

2021 is a special year for us, where we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Switzerland and Indonesia diplomatic relations, we welcome the entry into force of Indonesia-EFTA CEPA, and the first time Switzerland entered into the top five list FDI in Indonesia in the first quarter of the year.

This year has been a year of change and resilience where we are able to deliver our mission and support our members’ needs. As a chamber, we completed the annual general meeting and are ready to move forward with an approved program for 2022 and a strong financial position.

This issue will cover the important achievements as above, the special appreciation to Mr. Wolfgang Schanzenbach, one of the initiators behind the founding of the chamber, highlights the chamber’s achievement through sectoral group activities, highlights of members' achievements and also a warm welcome to our new members; PT. CNC Disain Nusantara, and Renewable Energy Skills Development (RESD) Project.

On behalf of board members, I would like to extend our gratitude to our members for your continuous support and contribution to the chamber in this very special year of the Switzerland - Indonesia relationship.

I wish you and your family an enjoyable festive season and a healthy and relaxing holiday. We look forward to continuing working and collaborating with you in an exciting 2022!

Special Feature: Get to Know Mr. Wolfgang Schanzenbach
Mr. Wolfgang Schanzenbach will retire from the Swiss Business Hub Indonesia (SBH), which is part of the Embassy of Switzerland in Jakarta starting June 2022. Here, he shares below his journey from growing up in Switzerland, his professional career milestones until settling down in Jakarta.

Wolfgang will step down as the head of SBH Indonesia soon, leaving a solid footprint in the Swiss business ecosystem in Indonesia in the form of a well-established Swiss Business Hub Indonesia and a robust SwissCham Indonesia.

Wolfgang has truly enjoyed his time in Indonesia, both professionally and personally. He is now ready to embark on a new journey, by getting involved in two to three possible ventures in his home country, with fun as the priority factor.

He wishes the entire Swiss Ecosystem continued success, sustainable growth, and many more happy companies and individual members, and offers these concluding remarks: “keep going for service excellence”.

The 65-year-old will return to Switzerland and formally retire with his wife Yvonne at the beautiful Lake Zurich.

Switzerland and Indonesia are at an exciting point in history. To commemorate its 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the two countries have committed to the rising trade relations through the entry into force of Indonesia - EFTA CEPA and Switzerland entered into the top 5 list of biggest investors in Indonesia Q1 this year.

SwissCham is committed also to bridging bilateral and business interests between the two nations.

Indonesia-EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Entered Into Force
The Indonesia-EFTA CEPA entered into force on the 1st of November 2021. This year not only did we celebrate the 70th anniversary but also another milestone was marked in strengthening economic relations through CEPA entering into force. This agreement is the first comprehensive economic partnership between Indonesia and EFTA countries. This will open many mutually beneficial trade opportunities, impacting a wide range of industries and services. It will also expand market access and legal certainty for trade, development, investment between all CEPA countries. Member companies are encouraged to take this opportunity and reap the benefits of this agreement and together to strengthen the Switzerland-Indonesia relationship.

Switzerland remains the most innovative country in the world for 11 consecutive years despite Covid-19, based on The 2021 Global Innovation Index of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

3rd Annual Golf Tournament 2021
3rd Annual Golf Tournament 2021
SwissCham hosted the third Golf Tournament since 2019, on Friday, November 19, at Royale Jakarta Golf Club. The event was successfully conducted under strict health protocols with over a hundred golfers.

The tournament was not only used as a networking platform for members and a wider business community but a chance to fundraise for donations. This year’s auction and profit are used to help SwissCham and its members to deliver donations to 1000 Days Fund to support its effort and mission to deliver a national, scalable solution to fight and eradicate stunting. Additionally, a successful auction also helped promote and sell a ceramic masterpiece, created by renowned ceramic artist, Endang Lestari.

SwissCham Indonesia Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program LoI and MoU Signing Ceremony
SwissCham Indonesia has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the Swiss government agency Swisscontact, which is implementing the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO)-funded Skills for Competitiveness (S4C) project in partnership with the Industry Ministry’s Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI). Following the LoI signing, SwissCham also facilitated the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SwissCham member companies and three S4C partner polytechnic institutes to bring experience and know-how to vocational education and training.

The pilot SwissCham TVET program allows direct buy-in from five SwissCham members: Endress+Hauser, Bühler, Givaudan, Indesso Primatama and SICPA to welcome top quality interns from designated Polytechnics. The MoU signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Kurt Kunz and Head of BPSDMI, Ir. Arus Gunawan.

This signing surely adds another important milestone to this year's Swiss Indonesian Relations long list achievement. It is hoped that the collaborations trigger the highest quality graduates to provide access to quality pool and to satisfy SwissCham members' talent demands.

Sustainability & Innovation Media Luncheon
SwissCham Indonesia's Sustainability and Innovation Sectoral Group held a Media Luncheon with chief editors and fellow journalists from various 11 media, including; Harian Kompas, Gatra, Republika, Bisnis Indonesia, CNN Indonesia, Medcom, Media Indonesia, Koran Tempo, OkeZone, Indopremier, and Limapagi.

The Sectoral Group focuses on developing programs focusing on Advancing Indonesia 4.0 in sustainability and innovation. With Indonesian media’s support, ideas, and insights, the chamber could gain valuable position and endorsement in its endeavor supporting Indonesia 4.0, and through sharing Swiss expertise in sustainability and innovation. Switzerland has long enjoyed its well-deserved reputation in these areas, evident from being the top-ranked country in innovation for eleven consecutive years.

Updates on Traveling to Indonesia and to Switzerland

Effective from December 4, 2021, Indonesia is no longer considered a high-risk country. The normal entry requirements apply again to any person entering Switzerland directly from Indonesia. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are new rules applicable to all travelers entering Switzerland - vaccinated/recovered or unvaccinated.

Everyone entering Switzerland must present a completed entry form, proof of a negative PCR test result (not more than 72 hours old), and a second test result (PCR or rapid antigen) 4-7 days after entry. There is no quarantine requirement for people arriving in Switzerland at present.

Indonesia
During the Covid-19 pandemic, entry into Indonesia is possible but Visa on Arrival and Free Visa Facility is suspended until further notice.

Foreign Nationals must have a local sponsor to obtain the visa and proof of Covid-19 vaccination. There will be a mandatory hotel quarantine for 10 x 24 hours with the entire cost borne independently by the foreign national traveler.

The project sets up multidisciplinary training programs at the tertiary level that equips civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers with the necessary renewable energy know-how.

The COVID-19 vaccine insurance offered by Zurich provides compensation for the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccination. This will encourage people to not hesitate to be vaccinated and assist the government to achieve the vaccination target of 208.3 million people by January 2022.

Zurich's free insurance provides two types of protection. First, compensation for participants who were hospitalized due to side effects of vaccination. Second, compensation for the ineffectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccination for participants hospitalized due to COVID-19 virus infection after receiving the last dose of vaccine.

By enabling oncologists, particularly in Indonesia, the channel can also share information and experiences through digital networks, thereby improving management outcomes for breast cancer patients in the country. First Telementoring ECHO to Improve Cancer Care in Indonesia
Roche Indonesia is partnering with Dharmais National Cancer Center and the Health Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia in implementing telementoring for the first time as part of Project ECHO to improve cancer care and support the acceleration of the national cancer network development in Indonesia. The ECHO telementoring model uses a knowledge-sharing approach through technology based on cancer cases that have been previously treated, among experts at hub hospitals, and clinicians in remote areas, and aims to reach 110 hospitals by 2024 and a long-term target of up to 514 hospitals. Roche believes that digital technology can help healthcare providers and patients overcome their current accessibility issues. People with cancer can now aspire to better quality care and treatment outcomes, wherever they are.

On November 2, Regal Springs Indonesia (RSI) through KAMI PEDULI program provided assistance for 30 lanes of cages and pontoon houses worth 135 million rupiahs to Sumberejo Village and Sumber Sari Village governments in Wadaslintang District, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java.

This is one of the company's efforts to increase self-sufficiency and cultivation, as well as the economic sustainability of the community.

With 70 people in attendance, he graciously shared valuable information on how an organization's learning culture should be inculcated to effectively become a competitive edge. During the event, it was discussed how cultural competence is one of the key factors in improving an organization's sustainability and hiring quality. 30 lucky participants received "Building a Sustainable Organization: Sukses Tumbuh dan Berkelanjutan dengan Pendekatan Budaya", an exclusive book signed by its author, Prof. Andreas.

On 21 October 2021, SwissCham held a webinar on “Circular Economy as a Driver to Sustainable Business” before an audience of 73 attendees. This webinar provided theoretical and practical knowledge on how the Circular Economy (CE) resonates with organizational sustainability and is enhancing business performance. Prof Benny Tjahjono from Coventry University, UK, shared theoretically how the CE concept is important to organizations. Anurag Thakwani from Hilti, our member, shared some practical examples of Hilti's approach towards CE and its progress.

How to Optimize The Use of LinkedIn Learning to Benefit Your Organization
Realizing the significance of the trending digital upskilling programs, on November 9, SwissCham Indonesia held a webinar on “How to Optimize The Use of LinkedIn Learning to Benefit Your Organization”. Participants were introduced to LinkedIn Learning courses and their features, and a discussion followed on how to integrate available courses into the organization's learning program. Lanny Wijaya from LinkedIn shared how skills will be the new currency on hiring relevant people and how LinkedIn learning could be optimized to upskill employees during the pandemic that will be important for the organization's growth and development.

On November 30, SwissCham held a webinar titled “Tax Talk Tuesday” on the topic of the recently ratified UU HPP (harmonization of tax regulations). Maria Novianna from PB Taxand shared with all 73 participants the objectives of the newly issued UU HPP that are relevant to business actors and shared 6 important key revisions and new articles. This webinar was provided to the members and colleagues to prepare their business and organization for changes to UU HPP that will come into effect soon.
